VALPOVO (Croatia) Geopark Papuk – 1st Intermediate meeting
7-9 November 2021
1st intermediate Meeting realized at Valpovo-Croatia between 7-9 November 2021.
The project representatives were hosted by the primary school. Matija Petra Katančić from the town of Valpovo.
On the first day, we started our meeting by visiting the school, during which we listened to a presentation on geoparks in Croatia. Then we got to know the town of Valpovo better, where the Baroque Palace is located. In the second part of the day we visited the city of Vukovar where we visited Vučedol Culture Museum and Vučedol Culture Museum and Pressure Tower – a symbol of the war for Croatian independence 🇭🇷









The second day was a visit to the UNESCO World Geopark Papuk Nature Park Goran Pavić was the guide of this area. For a start, in Vočin we had the opportunity to see the development educational center of the geopark. In addition, we visited two geostani houses in the former quarries, namely Trešnjevica (with volcanic and metamorphic rocks) and Rupnica (with unique pillar stumps in Croatia). Today we were impressed by the 30-meter waterfall Skakavac. At the end of the day we visited the village of Veliki dom Morza Panoński with a multimedia exhibition point.
On the third day we visited Kopački Rit, preserving the largest and most important part of Europe, a wetland area connected to the rivers Vienna and Drawa. Then we arrived in the city of Osijek. At the end of the day we visited the mayor of Valpovo who is Mr. Matko Šutalo





In addition to outdoor visits, our trip also included work on a part of the deserving multimedia application, which will be created as part of the VRGeoparks project.
